Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship
If you are a permanent resident of Canada or a resident of Canada above the age of 18, you can sponsor certain relatives to immigrate to Canada permanently. You can live, study, and work in Canada if you decide to stay there permanently. If you help a relative immigrate to Canada as a permanent resident, you are responsible for providing financial support when they arrive.
Requirements for becoming a sponsor:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- You and your sponsored family must agree to a sponsorship agreement that commits you to provide financial assistance to the family if needed. This understanding also states that the eternal resident will stoop to the best of his ability to help himself.
- Partners, customs and long-term financial support must be provided from the moment the partner becomes a permanent resident.
- You must provide financial assistance to your dependent child for a long period of time or until the child turns 25, whichever comes first.
